10/8/20 – Here’s a question from a member:  “What site do you recommend for monitoring or predicting volcanic eruptions? I am thinking there could be a number of large volcanoes going off in the Americas, which creates conditions similar to a nuclear winter.”

In answer to your question, Volcano Discovery is very good for tracking current eruptions. There is a wealth of information there on volcanoes worldwide. They also show earthquake information, since volcanoes and earthquakes tend to go hand in hand.  It’s curious to see no active volcanoes in Canada or the lower 48 of the United States. There are lots of dormant volcanoes listed up and down the west coast.

This is a preliminary list. If anyone else has a favorite volcano site, please leave it in the comments below.

10/31/20 – The Arctic has had very high 2m temperature anomalies for a while now. It looks like we have another spike coming. According to the Climate Reanalyzer forecast model, the Arctic could reach 6 C higher than normal on Nov. 10. If people are looking for a quick refreeze of the Arctic sea ice, I think they’re going to be disappointed. We could also see an increase in methane releases, especially from the ESAS. Also, note the Northern Hemisphere seeing a potential 1.5 C higher than normal. We’re truly in uncharted territory.
